I’ve always believed that charity is one of the most important things that defines us as humans. Despite all the bad that goes on in the world, there are still people willing to give to a cause they believe in to try and make the world a better place.
Today, I want to help the rest of you willing to donate make sure that the money you give goes to the right people, and not to waste. Without further ado, here’s a list of charities I’m personally a huge fan of, and would encourage anyone to donate to.
1. American Heart Association
Feel that beating in your chest? There’s a nonprofit dedicated to keeping it beating. With over $780 million in revenue last year, the American Heart Association is perhaps the best charity there is to donate to for your heart. Over the past 4 years, they’ve consistently raised more than their expenses, allowing them to consistently donate. They’re also very open about their finances and where your money goes, which is a huge factor to consider when giving to a charity.
2. Families of Autistic Children of Tidewater (FACT)
Established in 1993, FACT is a program that seeks to improve the quality of life for kids with autism and their families. they’ve hosted summer camps, sporting events, and even beach days. Most importantly, they provide social and communication skills to these kids, helping them develop career and vocational skills.
As a dog owner, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has been a favorite charity in my book for years now. With local branches operating all over the United States, their focus is preventing animal abuse, and helping pets find loving families.
4. Bruce Rader Charities
Known as a Sports Director in Virginia for almost 30 years, Bruce has worked with various charitable organizations, helping to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in the Hampton Roads and Virginia Beach Area. Some of the charities he’s helped raise money for include the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation in Hampton Roads, United Cerebral Palsy of Southeastern Virginia, and the Virginia Beach SPCA. He also speaks to groups throughout Virginia and North Carolina encouraging volunteerism in our nation.
5. Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD)
CHKD is the only freestanding children’s hospital in Virginia that serves the medical and surgical needs of children throughout southeastern Virginia, northeastern North Carolina and the Eastern Shore of Virginia. They provide services from primary care all the way to surgery, and have over 200 rooms available to care for children in need of medical service. Donations from people like us help to keep their doors open, so if you’re looking for a charity that helps kids, this is a great one.
So there you have it, 5 charities I trust, and would encourage anyone to donate to. As a final word of caution: not all charities are created equal. Some are better than others at getting your donation to those intended. Do your research before you donate to make sure what you give doesn’t go to waste. Now, what are you waiting for? Go donate today!
